Sometimes you have to start 'messy' to create a masterpiece.
Sometimes you have to start 'messy' to create a masterpiece.

It was such a relief to submit the Metacognitive/Reflective Essay. I always have trouble keeping my words concise, and as much as I despised the process of writing the essay, it was a good experience to write one again because;

  1. It was something I 'had to do' that I haven't done in years. It used to be my forte, but over the years, I've become rusty.

  2. It humbly reminded me how the students feel when they are offered a big project that seems overwhelming to them.

  3. It gave me the chance to think about how to break down a writing task into smaller steps to help students who have difficulties with writing overcome what seems to them like a mountain-sized hurdle.

  4. It reminded me that putting thoughts into words requires a deeper comprehension and absorption of the material covered, especially when applying information to practical scenarios.

  5. It was a reminder that some tasks are terrifying or 'unfun' for our students. Writing this essay gave me a chance to recall that feeling so that I can approach tasks like this in a manner that might be less intimidating to those who have these fears. It also helped me recognize where our students might find difficulties depending on their learning profile.
